Chetumal, Q. R. — A combi transport van that runs the Chetumal to Mahahual route burned in its entirety. The van began to smoke during a run between the two Costa Maya areas Friday.
By the time firemen arrived, the van was already fully engulfed in flames.
According to preliminary information, the driver, who had several passengers on board, was near Cafetal when smoke was noticed under the hood. Within moments, the smoke turned into flames.
Both the driver of the Chetumal city van and his handful of passengers were able to get out without injuries. The driver of the combi attempted to smother the fire himself, but to no avail. Only the metal shell of the transport van was left for authorities to haul away.
