Chetumal painter dies from overhead powerline shock

Chetumal, Q.R. — Chetumal paramedics were unable to save a painter after being shocked by overhead power lines. The fatal accident happened Tuesday afternoon on top of a building on Efraín Aguilar Avenue.

The man’s painting pole accidentally touched the overhead power lines sending a charge through the pole that threw the man from the roof. He was found on the pavement below. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Neighbors made the report of the accident to 9-1-1. The area was cordoned off by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) personnel while they waited for the body to be removed.

The deceased has been identified as Julio “N” of approximately 30. Agents from the State Attorney General’s Office arrived to collect information before the body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service.
