Chetumal man who resisted kidnapping shot to death

Chetumal, Q.R. — A man was left for dead in Chetumal Wednesday after resisting a kidnapping attempt. According to the State Attorney General (FGE), the attempted kidnapping and subsequent shooting took place on Anastacio Guzmán.

The shooting victim has been identified as Mauricio “E”, the son of a former state deputy. Paramedics responding to the 911 report of the shooting arrived to pronounced him dead.

According to early information, the young man was intercepted by three others who tried to forced him into a waiting vehicle. During the physical struggle, the man pulled out a gun and began firing at the other three. They shot back. He reportadly died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Local authorities reported briefly on the shooting but did not provide details regarding motive. Possible suspects have not been made public.
