Chetumal, Q.R. — Chetumal paramedics were unable to save a man Friday who had been hit by a truck. The man was riding a bicycle in an area known for use by heavy vehicles when he was hit.
The accident happened around 5:45 p.m. in a dirt road area near the Tamalcab neighborhood. The man was riding his bike at the end of Avenida 4 de Marzo when he was run over by a dump truck.
Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross arrived to try to assist the cyclist, however, he died shortly before they arrived.

According to a preliminary report, the man, in his 30s, suffered a severe head injury. His bicycle was found near where he was struck by the truck.
Witnesses said the bicyclist seemed to not hear the oncoming dump truck.
The driver of the dump truck stopped at the scene of the accident. He was taken in for questioning and his vehicle towed.
