Chetumal left in the dark after driver snags overhead power lines

Chetumal, Q.R. — A semi driver who miscalculated his height left a section of Chetumal in the dark after snagging a set of power lines. Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were requested at the site of the mishap Tuesday along Bahia Boulevard to make repairs.

It was around 10:00 p.m. when the driver of the large unit entered Bahia Boulevard and managed to snag a set of overhead power lines. A main restaurant and bar area of Chetumal was left without electricity for several hours.

Power was cut from Calzada Veracruz Avenue to the Faro several blocks away. CFE personnel were at the scene for hours reestablishing power. Police did not provide details on a possible fine to the semi driver or cost for city property damage.
