Chetumal, Q.R. — The Chetumal International Airport (AIC) reported an increase in passenger traffic from the year before with an additional 126,885 passengers. According to figures from Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA), the Chetumal International Airport closed with 279,525 passengers, exceeding their 2020 figures of 152,640.
The Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA) says last year represented an 83 percent increase in passengers. They reported that in December, the Aeropuerto Internacional de Chetumal (AIC) recorded its best month since the start of the pandemic with 35,262 passengers.
The airport agency also revealed that the new Miami-Chetumal route, which began December 1, helped foreign operations rebound.
Eloy Stalin Quintal Jiménez, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) of Chetumal, says there are signs of economic reactivation taking place. He said the recent holiday season helped to increase the flow of people between Chetumal and the rest of the country, mainly with Mexico City and Guadalajara.
