Chetumal firemen called to late night grass fire near residential area

Chetumal, Q.R. — A grass fire reported late Friday night in the Lagunitas residential area of Chetumal was kept under control by firemen. Authorities were at the scene for more than an hour trying to put out the fast moving flames from a wildfire.

Area residents called emergency services for help after seeing flames in an open field. By the time firemen arrived, the fire had spread toward a mechanical workshop. The owner, not realizing firemen had already been called, also made a fire report to 9-1-1.

The fire began in a grassy area off Insurgentes Avenue. After about an hour, Chetumal firemen declared the 20 square-meter fire officially out. The cause of the late night grass fire is not known.
