Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal bicyclist was lucky to walk away from an accident that left his bike crushed by a semi. The accident happened Sunday when the man was riding on Constituyentes Avenue where a semi driver was changing direction.
In the process of the direction change, the man was hit by the semi and knocked off the bike seconds before it was run over. The impact caused the man to be thrown off the bike and onto the shoulder suffering only superficial wounds.
The rear of his bike, however, was crushed and the bucket and thermos he was carrying, flattened after being run over.
Paramedics were called to treat the man, an elderly construction worker, for his minor injuries after being thrown to the pavement. Transit Police also arrived to take statements since the driver of the semi did not realize he had hit a bicyclist.
