Cancun, Q.R. — Charges have been laid in the May murder of a Cancun taxi driver found dead inside his unit. Police say the suspect, Helbert Ariel “N”, has been charged for aggravated homicide.
“For his alleged involvement in acts possibly constituting the crime of aggravated homicide, Helbert Ariel “N” was formally charged after a judge reviewed the evidence presented by the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office through the Specialized Homicide Unit,” police reported.
On May 12, 2026 a Cancun taxi driver was found dead in the back seat floor of his taxi. He had been shot to death. His body was found after nearby residents reported hearing gunfire.
During his arrest, Helbert Ariel “N” was found carrying a 9mm firearm. Police said “forensic experts conducted tests using the IBIS system which yielded a positive match with the homicide of a male found dead inside a taxi on May 12 of this year.”
Authorities also reported that inside the taxi with the deceased, “Investigative Police officers located a loaded magazine containing live ammunition, which corresponds to the firearm seized from the now-accused.”
Police say the shooting was related to drug dealing activities. Helbert Ariel “N” has been previously charged with drug possession.
