Cargo truck snags low cables leaving central Chetumal without power

Chetumal, Q.R. — A cargo truck left a large section of central Chetumal without power Tuesday after snagging overhead wires. Civil Protection were at the scene along with police after reports of the accident on Efraín Aguilar Avenue.

Residents of the centro neighborhood reported the power outage after the cargo truck pulled down a set of low lying cables. The incident occurred between Francisco I. Madero and José María Morelos Streets Tuesday afternoon.

According to preliminary reports, the truck caught the cables as it passed by, causing them to come loose. The snagged cables were found by Civil Protection laying on the street.

Police and Civil Protection personnel were at the scene to secure the area while they waited for the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to carry out the necessary repairs.
