Chetumal, Q.R. — Unionized CAPA workers were successful in getting their salary increase and field uniforms. After a one-day worker protest earlier this week, a meeting between union and CAPA leaders got them what they wanted.
Union leader Antonio Torres Ávila said both sides met regarding the salary increase, uniforms and better working conditions.
“We have been several years without an increase in salary and the basic food basket has already exceeded wages, so fortunately we managed to meet with the directors of CAPA and we agreed to start with salary leveling shortly.”
Aside from salary, Torres Ávila said CAPA also agreed to the requested supplies and safety equipment for technicians and personnel in the areas of repair, maintenance, pipe operation, patching and supervision as well as uniforms for the approximately 250 workers.
Alberto Covarrubias Cortés, the General Director of CAPA, confirmed that as if October 1, they will begin the salary adjustments and in around five weeks, begin delivering the new uniforms.
