Cancun’s free city beach bus will benefit more than 30,000 residents

Cancun, Q.R. — Saturday was the first day of the city’s new free public transportation to Cancun beaches. With the goal of guaranteeing the right to mobility and the enjoyment of public spaces, Governor Mara Lezama and Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta, kicked off the launch.

On Saturday, Cancun launched the municipal program Ruta Mar, a new free transportation service that allows residents to travel free to city’s beaches.

During the opening ceremony, Mara Lezama and Ana Paty Peralta described the start of the program as a historic day for Cancun, as it is an inclusive strategy that brings the sea closer to those who face long journeys or have limited access to public transportation.

Starting this weekend, Ruta Mar will operate every Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., benefiting more than 30,000 people from different parts of the city.

The mayor announced that in this first phase, the program begins with two routes. Route 1 departs from the northern part of the city, starting at the Torito bus station, and passes through Multiplaza Villas, the ISSSTE hospital, and Rehoyada.

Route 2 departs from the eastern part of the city, starting in Tres Reyes, with stops at Paseos Kusamil and Bodega Aurrerá Tierra Maya. Both routes reach the tourist area in approximately 32 minutes with stops at Las Perlas, Langosta, and Tortugas beaches, as well as Plaza Forum.

Ana Paty specified that the service is governed by the Good Cancun Resident Regulations, which establish rules such as not consuming alcoholic beverages during the journey, not bringing glass containers to the beach, not littering, taking care of the vehicles and maintaining a respectful coexistence among users.

With this program, the state and municipal governments reiterated their commitment to promoting humanist and inclusive public policies that foster well-being, healthy family life and equitable access to the enjoyment of the sea, under the motto Beaches for everyone, as part of the transformation of Cancun.
