Cancun, Q.R. — The City of Cancun has launched a new Beaches for Everyone transportation campaign. On weekends, locals can hop on the designated bus for a free ride to one of the four hotel zone beach destinations.
As of December 13, the public bus, Ruta Mar, will offer free rides to four beaches on two routes of the Cancun Hotel Zone. Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta says the bus is an act of social justice to ensure everyone has access to the beach.
Under the slogan “Beaches for everyone” and as an act of social justice, Mayor Peralta, announced the launch of the “Ruta Mar” project, a free public transportation service that will take Cancun residents to four beaches in the hotel zone.

The campaign she says, operates exclusively on weekends so that Cancun residents can enjoy the natural beauty of the destination.
“In Cancun there are families who cannot enjoy our beautiful beaches because inequality reaches that extreme. There are those who live in irregular settlements, without services, far away and who cannot enjoy our beautiful sea, but that is over,” she said.
Mayor Peralta says starting December 13, one of the two routes will depart from the Tres Reyes neighborhood and the second from the base of the Center for Retention and Administrative Sanctions (El Torito).
Circuit distance: 46.2 kilometers on Route 1 and 52.1 kilometers on route 2

She explained that those two routes cover different urban areas, so one will have four bases in the urban area located at the height of “El Torito”, Multiplaza Villas del Mar, Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) and La Rehoyada.
The other will depart from bases located near Tres Reyes, Paseo Kusamil and Bodega Aurrera Tierra Maya, and in both cases, will reach four public beaches. The free Cancun Ruta Mar bus will transport locals to Plays Las Perlas, Langosta, Tortugas and Playa Gaviota Azul.
According to the Municipal Institute of Planning in Urban Development, the buses will run people to the first beach on the route in 32 minutes, with departure times from 10:00 to 18:00 and return times from 11:00 to 19:00.
Urban Development Director Héctor Sánchez Tirado explained that conditions to use the free transport will include boarding only at designated stops and disembarkation only at marked beaches.

He also said that it is forbidden to consume alcoholic beverages, bring pets (except guide dogs with credentials), carry large or dangerous objects such as bicycles, as well as smoke, drink or listen to loud music during the trip.
