Cancun taxi driver arrested for physical altercation with Uber driver

Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun taxi driver involved in a physical altercation with an Uber driver has been arrested. José Alberto “N” was picked up for the November 23, 2024 assault against a man dropping off tourists in the Cancun Hotel Zone.

According to the State Attorney General (FGE), “a male person identified as José Alberto “N”, was arrested for his probable participation in acts possibly constituting the crime of injuries and carrying, manufacturing, importing and stockpiling prohibited weapons to the detriment of a digital platform operator.

“Initial investigations link José Alberto “N” to events that occurred on November 23 of this year, when he allegedly physically assaulted a digital platform driver, who in turn took a machete from his vehicle. The incident happened outside a shopping plaza located on Kukulcán Boulevard,” they reported.

Following the events, police integrated the respective investigation file and requested the Mobility Institute of the State of Quintana Roo to revoke the concession of the vehicles involved.

“Subsequently, on November 28, the FGE requested and obtained from a judge a search warrant for a home located in the irregular colony El Milagro in Cancun, obtaining the seizure of the vehicle belonging to the taxi driver.

“Similarly, on December 3 of this year, elements of the Investigative Police seized the vehicle belonging to the digital platform operator. The seized units, as well as José Alberto “N”, were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.”

The FGE also said that “in this same case, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Committed by Public Servants initiated a process for the actions of the elements of the Tourist Police, dependent on the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit of Benito Juárez, who are related to the events.”
