Cancun police arrest five believed linked to numerous area murders

Cancun, Q.R. — Five people were transferred to Cancun police facilities after authorities set out to capture one man identified as Oscar D. The detainment of all five took place in Alfredo V. Bonfil of Cancun on Tuesday after police stormed a private residence in search of the man, they say, has three outstanding arrest warrants.

During his arrest, police also captured Jairo B, Néstor A, Denis B and Román O on drug-related charges. Their main target, Oscar D, was wanted on homicide charges, specifically for the death of a Puerto Morelos government official in February of this year.

In a press release, the FGE detail that Oscar D is being investigated for his capacity as the material author in that murder as well as in the April 20 death of a man found shot dead in the streets of Alfredo V Bonfil and another incident in March of this year, when in SM 95, a woman and child were taken to hospital after being injured in a targeted attack of another man that took place in a Cancun car wash.

Oscar D is believed to be a main generator of violent crime throughout the state.

The other four, three men and one women, who were taken into custody “are being investigated for their probable participation in other criminal behaviors, among them, homicides committed to the detriment of taxi drivers in the northern part of the state.”

The FGE says that one of those four has already been linked to the commission of various homicides of taxi drivers.
