Cancun police arrest eight after Monday night protest

Cancun, Q.R. — Police in Cancun made eight arrests during the Monday night protest by workers of the city’s former garbage collection company. The arrests of the eight Intelligencia México garbage collection workers were made after at least three police officers were injured.

The eight are allegedly aggressors from the Monday night protest that left the city officers injured. Taken into custody were eight males who range in age from 19 to 52 years old.

The corporation reported that the policemen went to Tulum Avenue around 7:30 p.m. where approximately 80 garbage collection workers demonstrated. Upon their arrival, they were met with stones and assaulted with sticks.

The Cancun police officers were injured and assisted by paramedics. Two of the detainees were also injured.

On Monday night, anti-riot police were sent to the central location where protestors had used their garbage trucks to block Tulum Avenue, a main traffic artery of Cancun.
