Cancun, Q.R. — A Cancun bus driver seen skirting traffic by driving on a sidewalk has had his transport license revoked. Personnel from the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute (Imoveqroo) revoked his license after the video went viral.
A pedestrian watched as the city bus driver failed to wait for traffic on the road, but instead, drove onto the sidewalk to skirt the line. The incident happened Tuesday in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
Rodrigo Alcázar Urrutia, the General Director of the Quintana Roo Mobility Institute said “inspection personnel became aware of these facts and located the unit, which was towed to the corralón. Imoveqroo began the administrative process to cancel the driver’s public service C-class license.”
He said the owner of the company bus will be fined and kept out of circulation until that fine is paid. He did not say how much the fine would be.
Rodrigo Alcázar mentioned that there will be no tolerance for these types of actions and that the agency will cancel the licenses of those who break the law, since at the start of 2024, the licenses are state-owned.
Alcázar Urrutia said that on Monday they stopped a TTE van on Route 70 for pulling over on a bicycle path and completely blocking it to use the phone.
