Canadian vessel rescued after running aground near Mahahual

Mahahual, Q.R. — A 64-year-old Canadian man and his boat were rescued by the Secretary of the Navy after running aground at the lighthouse.

According to a statement, the rescue was carried out February 25 by the Mexican Navy and personnel from the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), the National Commission for Protected Areas (CONANP), as well as Mahahual service providers.

The port captaincy in Mahahual received the report of a sailboat named Ramblynn that had become stranded at the lighthouse in the vicinity of Mahahual. Navy personnel from Chetumal responded to the report, locating the sailboat and one person on board.

With help of the Navy, the boat was towed and moored at the Mahahual Fishermen’s Wharf.
