Mahahual, Q.R. — Area residents of Mahahual have located the remains of a young whale. A group kayaking Friday found the whale floating in the sea among sargassum.
A local environmentalist waded out into the sea where he tied a rope to its body and towed it to shore. A group then gathered to lift the young calf into the back of a truck for relocation to local authorities.

An autopsy will be performed to try and determine its official cause of death. State officials will look into factors such as pollution and disease. The body is reported to be of a young sperm whale species.
