Cancun, Q.R. — The body of a young teen who was swept out to sea Tuesday night has been recovered. Passersby located the body washed up along Playa Gaviota Azul around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Emergency services were notified of their finding. Police, accompanied by the medical examiner, arrived to find the young man several meters from the shore of the same beach in which he disappeared the night before.
The teen was on the beach with his mother and sibling Tuesday evening when he entered the water and was swept out by the strong current. Search and rescue began looking for the man, but due to the lack of light and high concentration of sargassum, the search was called off at 9:30 p.m.
Officials were to resume their search and recovery efforts at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, however, the body was found at 6:30 a.m. that same morning.
