Chetumal, Q.R. — A body found wrapped and dumped on a Chetumal bridge Saturday has been identified as a former Tulum police officer. The body was located around 3:00 a.m. Saturday by a passerby. Next to the body was a message “This will happen to those who steal land”.
The deceased has been identified as Juan Carlos “R”, a former agent of the Municipal Police of Tulum. He was found executed in the Mártires Antorchistas neighborhood of Chetumal left wrapped in a sheet with the intimidating message.
He was part of the Vigilance Committee of the Ejido Calderitas, a place where conflicts related to land disputes have arisen and where he allegedly had ties to criminal factions in southern Quintana Roo.
Members of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) and the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) sectioned off the bridge while they removed the body.
