Boat of five rescued during Mahahual fishing tournament

Mahahual, Q.R. — A fishing boat with five people was left to drift after their engine failed off the shores of Mahahual.

The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico reports that over the weekend, personnel assigned to the Eleventh Naval Zone rescued five people aboard a vessel without propulsion three nautical miles, (approximately 5.5 kilometers), east of Mahahual.

The support was made after receiving an emergency call from the organizers of the sport fishing tournament Copa Mahahual X Edition who informed authorities that a boat named Emilse with five on board was adrift after the engine failed.

A navy vessel was immediately ordered out to sea with Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance personnel of Chetumal to locate the boat, where they reported finding the crew in good health. Emilse was towed to the Mahahual fisherman’s wharf.
