Belize man shot outside Chetumal mall dies in hospital

Chetumal, Q.R. — A 29-year-old man has died after being shot in Chetumal. According to witnesses, his assailants were traveling in a white vehicle when he was approached outside a city mall.

Colin “G”, 29 from Belize, was shot several times in what appears to be a targeted attack. He was shot outside the closed mall around 4:20 a.m. Saturday. He is reported to have died in hospital later that day.

According to initial reports, officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security arrived at the scene after receiving a report of gunshots and found a man lying in the street with multiple wounds.

He had been shot found times in his chest, sides and left wrist. Paramedics from the Emergency Rescue and Medical Services Squadron (ERUM) rushed him to the General Hospital in critical condition.

Despite efforts, he died in hospital. Witnesses said the man was talking with the occupants of the vehicle for a few moments before they began shooting at him. The car fled the scene. Police in Chetumal continue to search for those involved.
