Authorities confirm ADO bus accident death toll remains at 8 and identify the dead

Cancun, Q.R. — The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office confirmed the death toll in an ADO bus-dump truck accident remains at eight. The office has also released additional information about those killed in the crash.

In a social media briefing, the FGE reported “that the 8 victims who lost their lives in the accident of a passenger bus on the Kantunilkin-Cancún highway have been identified,” by their initial. Two of the deceased are French nationals. One of the deceased is a German national.

The FGE also said the driver of the dump truck and the driver of the ADO bus, have been detained by police. “The drivers of the trucks involved, Leonardo “P” and Luciano “M” are at the disposal of the prosecutor of the Public Ministry. One of them received medical attention.”

The driver of the ADO bus was one of those transferred to hospital, however, he has since been discharged. The dump truck involved in the accident was one working on a section of highway for the upcoming Maya Train project.

Details as to the cause of the Sunday morning accident outside Cancun have not yet been officially clarified by authorities.
