Arrest made after woman’s body found under pile of rocks near Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — A man believed responsible for the death of a Campeche woman has been detained by Playa del Carmen police. In a press release, the Attorney General reports the arrest of Fredi M, who they say, was taken into custody at dawn.

On August 27, the family of the now-victim reported the disappearance of the 26-year-old woman to the Public Ministry agency in Tulum. They reported that on August 25, she went to a Riviera Maya hotel to deliver documents for a job application.

Upon leaving the hotel, she started toward her home in the community of Puerto Maya, in municipality of Solidaridad, but never arrived.

The FGE says an Amber Alert was activated and search protocols applied as police began an investigation into her disappearance, interviewing staff at the hotel where she was last seen. Hotel security cameras showed her at the hotel.

On August 30, a report was made to the 911 emergency service regarding the discovery of the lifeless body of a female in a green area in Puerto Maya.

Experts from various specialties, as well as elements of the investigative police, attended the scene. It was later confirmed that it was the same person, 26-year-old LJUC originally from the state of Campeche, reported as missing.

The FGE said that evidence collected, together with other test data, allowed them to identify Fredi M as her aggressor. The FGE says Fredi M was also seen at the same hotel applying for a job.
