Costa Maya, Q.R. — Motorists traveling the Costa Maya Cafetal highway reported an armored truck fire. The security vehicle’s engine began to smolder Sunday as it headed toward Mahahual.
State Rural Police and the National Guard Roads Division were sent to the scene where they located a fully engulfed vehicle. The four men inside the truck were able to get out before the fire spread.
A firetruck arrived to extinguish the burning vehicle. A second security vehicle was brought in to assist the guards and secure the money they were transporting. An official cause for the fire is still being investigated.
