Another Cancun prison guard gunned down in broad daylight

Cancun, Q.R. — A woman identified as a Cancun prison guard was gunned down in broad daylight Wednesday. Her body was found in between two vehicles in a parking lot of the private residential area where she lived.

Neighbors who heard the 6:30 a.m. gunfire called police. The shooting happened as the woman was walking to her car in the Prado Norte residential area of Cancun early Wednesday morning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Neighbors reported seeing two subjects aboard a motorcycle open fire before speeding away. According to neighbors, six shots were heard.

The deceased woman, Luz “S”, was a prison guard at the Social Reintegration Center (Cereso) of Cancun. She is the fourth Cancun prison guard, the second female guard, executed this year. Police searched the area for the gunmen but have not announced arrests.

Three weeks ago, a Cancun prison guard was shot and killed while walking to his vehicle after leaving a shift. His murder was captured on prison security cameras. An arrest has not been announced in his murder.
