During the commemoration at the Cancun International Airport, Governor Lezama thanked the French airline for the confidence placed in the Mexican Caribbean and highlighted the importance of maintaining this route which, with the exception of a few months during the COVID-19 pandemic, has operated uninterruptedly.

The Governor highlighted that France is one of the most important European markets for Quintana Roo with an estimated influx of between 230,000 and 250,000 visitors per year.

Mara Lezama indicated that the French market ranks second among the main European sources of tourists to the Mexican Caribbean, after the United Kingdom, followed by Spain and Germany, which confirms the importance of maintaining and strengthening air links with that continent.

“It’s a wonderful story that has been shared by many more passengers who come to the Vacation Capital of the World, who come here when they get engaged, who even get married here, and who later return with their children, grandchildren, or granddaughters. And the truth is, it’s a great commercial alliance, a great strategic alliance,” she said.

Fifteen years after its inception, the Paris-Cancun-Paris route represents a strategic link between Europe and the Mexican Caribbean, facilitating the movement of travelers, strengthening relations between both destinations and contributing to the international projection of Quintana Roo.

During the ceremony, the General Director of Air France and KLM in Mexico, Mr. Maarten Snijders stated it is the 15th anniversary of the Paris-Cancun-Paris route and also the start of a new season with the reopening of the direct connection between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Cancun.

He also pointed out the commemoration of 200 years of relations between Mexico and France and announced that now, the airline is offering three weekly flights between Paris and Cancun with a progressive increase until reaching a daily flight from December 14th.
