Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane season has official come to an end. For the Cancun-Riviera Maya, the season was uneventful, at least when compared to recent seasons.
According to the NOAA, the 2022 season saw an average number of named storms, a slightly above-average number of hurricanes and a near-average number of major hurricanes.
In total, the season produced 14 named storms of which eight became hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or greater). Two of those intensified to major hurricanes with winds reaching 111 mph or greater.
During the 2022 season, hurricanes Ian, Nicole and Fiona brought extensive damage to Florida’s coast and Puerto Rico, respectively.
According to the NOAA, an average hurricane season has 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes. The season officially began on June 1, and ended on November 30.
