Cancun, Q.R. — A fifth arrest has been made in the murder of a Cancun taxi union member. On Wednesday, José Rosendo “N” was arrested in Izamal, Yucatan for allegedly colluding in the murder of another union member.
That union member, Jose Luis Morelos, was kidnapped in October and later murdered. His body was later found with more than 20 bullet wounds on the side of a highway. According to Cancun police, he was killed for disagreeing with the Cancun Taxi Union leader linked to drug trafficking with local cartel members.
According to a statement released by Cancun authorities Thursday, José Rosendo “N” was arrested in Izamal, Yucatán, the fifth person involved in the murder of a member of the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Union.
“Investigative agents executed an arrest warrant against José Rosendo “N” for his probable participation in events possibly constituting the crime of qualified homicide against a collaborator of the Andrés Quintana Roo Taxi Driver’s Union, which occurred in this municipality.
“According to field and technological investigations, the now detained man’s participation in the aforementioned homicide was to watch the victim, to notify his accomplices when he left the union and went to his home where he was intercepted and put into a vehicle.
“Likewise, investigators learned that José Rosendo “N” was in a social media group through which the accomplices organized to deprive the victim of his life. After his arrest, he was transferred from Yucatan back to Cancun.”
