Young tourist rushed to Cancun hospital after near-drowning incident

Cancun, Q.R. — A young tourist was pulled from the sea off a Cancun Hotel Zone beach Sunday from where he was rushed to hospital. The 17-year-old was rescued from the rough waters around 6:30 p.m. by on-duty lifeguards.

Other swimmers requested help for the young man after seeing him struggling in the water. Gustavo Ángel “A”, a tourist from Guatemala, was returned to the sand unconscious.

Medical personnel at the beach performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. He was accompanied to hospital by his mother Verónica in serious condition.

The young swimmer was on vacation in Cancun at the time of the incident. He was swimming in the sea near an area at the front of the Cancun Hotel Zone when he was carried out by the strong currents.
