Cancun, Q.R. — Lifeguards at Cancun’s Playa Tortugas were unsuccessful in saving a man from drowning Wednesday. The death of the young man was pronounced by officials after lifeguards reported seeing the man in the water.
After rushing out and returning him to shore, lifeguards reported that he was already without vital signs.
Paramedics arrived at the beach to confirm the death, while agents of the Tourist Police and the State Attorney General’s Office were on hand to cordoned off part of the public beach. The young man, who was not identified, was said to be approximately 19 years of age.
