Cancun, Q.R. — A young woman from the United States died by drowning Tuesday off a Cancun beach. The 22-year-old American woman was rushed to a private hospital after being pulled from the sea Tuesday afternoon.
The struggling swimmer was rescued from the strong currents outside a hotel at kilometer 16.5 of the Cancun Hotel Zone.
According to preliminary reports, the woman was in the company of her boyfriend when she began having problems. He ran for help, which is when hotel staff were reportedly the ones who pulled her from the water and requested an ambulance.
She was transferred to hospital in serious condition, but was pronounced upon arrival.
