Cancun, Q.R. — Skeletal remains found inside a home during a renovation Wednesday have been confirmed as human. Police arrived at a house in SM 227 yesterday where workers found the remains inside a septic tank.
The group of construction workers called police around 5:30 p.m. reporting that they found a human hand.

According to initial reports, the call was made to emergency 9-1-1 reporting the discovery of what appeared to be a human hand. Police arrived at the Cancun home on Centenario Avenue and 34th Street to confirm the call.
Municipal police officers interviewed the workers who stated that they found a human hand while cleaning the tank. Following a preliminary inspection, officers confirmed the presence of human remains and requested assistance from the Fire Department for a more thorough examination.
Authorities indicated that in addition to the visible hand, what appeared to be the rest of the body could be seen at the bottom of the tank.
The area was cordoned off while authorities began the corresponding procedure to process the scene and remove the remains.
Neighbors in the area commented that the house had often been occupied by homeless people, however, it was recently acquired by a new owner who hired the group of workers to renovate the house.
