Cancun, Q.R. — The company Constructora y Edificadora León SA de CV has won the tender to complete the Avenida Chaac Mool extension roadway project. The company has been hired to add five kilometers of road to the city’s busy system.
Once complete, the extra kilometers will convert the avenue into a four-lane alternate route to relieve Cancun city traffic on Colosio Boulevard. The winning contract also includes the installation of sidewalks, ridges and lighting.
The tender was opened by the Ministry of Communications and Transportation Infrastructure (SICT) in late November and awarded in the first week of January. Work on the 239 million peso extension project is expected to begin immediately.
The extension of Chaac Mool is part of the project rehabilitation package of the city of Cancun that began in August that will see the remodeling of roadways as well as the construction of a new airport cloverleaf system and lagoon bridge.
