Cancun, Q.R. — A second suspect in the 2020 kidnapping of a Cancun man who has never been found has been arrested in Veracruz. Lorena “N” was taken into police custody Thursday in the city of Coatzacoalcos after Cancun authorities tracked a ransom payment to her bank account.
Her arrest stems from the kidnapping of a Cancun man in February of 2020 who has never been found, however, the victim’s mother paid the 90,000 peso ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
That money was tracked to a bank account owned by Lorena “N”, who was only recently located. Her arrest is the second in the case.
According to the State Attorney General (FGE), her arrest was made in collaboration with the Veracruz State Prosecutor’s Office on an outstanding warrant. For the time being, she is being charged with extortion since the man’s body has never been found.
“The detained woman identified as Lorena “N”, who after investigative work, is linked to the kidnapping of a male which occurred on February 22, 2020, with no indication of his whereabouts to date,” the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reported.
“The victim left his home on the appointed date to go to a party, but did not return. Days later, through messages, they demanded from his mother the amount of 90,000 pesos for his release, an amount that she deposited in a bank account without receiving any news from her son,” they added.
Cancun authorities were able to obtained the data of the account in which the money was deposited. “Upon obtaining the name of the owner, police requested the arrest warrant.”
Lorena “N” has since been transferred back to Cancun to face charges. She is the second person arrested in the kidnapping case. On December 30, 2023, police completed an arrest warrant for the priority target Jorge Luis “N”.
