Woman rushed to Cancun hospital after LP gas explosion

Cancun, Q.R. — A woman was taken to Cancun hospital Friday for medical treatment after an LP gas explosion. The gas explosion happened inside an apartment in the private subdivision of Sac-Be.

Emergency services responded after a 9-1-1 report. They arrived at Ixil Avenue of the private residential area to find the third level apartment windows completely blown out.

Paramedics were part of the responding emergency team, arriving to find a woman with numerous injuries including first degree burns and cuts from glass.

According to Cancun fire department operational coordinator José Luis Salamanca, they received the call at 4:48 p.m. Friday through 9-1-1. At the scene, they located the occupant, Lilia Vázquez “C” from Puerto Rico, with first degree burns.

The Cancun Fire Department reported the explosion was due to an accumulation of gas inside the third floor unit. A firetruck from Base III along with an emergency pickup from the central station responded with five elements.

The woman was taken to hospital with first degree burns on her hands and legs. The explosion caused extensive material damage to the home.

Firemen proceeded to close the LP gas valve on a 10 kg tank. The woman was attempting to light a hot water tank (boiler) located inside the unit at the time of the explosion.
