Cancun, Q.R. — Air traffic controllers at the Cancun International Airport assisted in the emergency landing request of a Volaris flight after the pilot declared an engine fire.
The Volairs plane, which was traveling from Mexico City to Chetumal, requested the emergency landing at Cancun after its left engine caught fire during flight. The plane was given the go-ahead and landed at 8:00 p.m. without incident, being tended to by ASUR firemen upon its arrival.
Flight 824 was carrying 170 passengers at the time of the incident. There were no reported injuries. Passengers were delayed nearly two hours while a replacement plane was made available to continue the journey to the state’s capital city of Chetumal.
