Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — For the second time this month, authorities in Puerto Morelos have shut down illegal real estate developments. On Friday, the Secretariat of Sustainable Urban Development (Sedetus) led an inter-institutional operation to close down irregular settlements in the municipality of Puerto Morelos.

In a report, the Secretaría de Desarrollo Territorial Urbano Sustentable (Sedetus) said four developments have been closed. All four are located along Ruta de los Cenotes.
The four illegal real estate developments were shut down Friday in a coordinated effort between the Secretariat of Ecology and Environment, the Environmental Protection Agency, Civil Protection, the Puerto Morelos Directorate of Ecology and Urban Development and Public Safety.

In their statement, Sedetus said the projects were shut with the goal of curbing unregulated growth and ensuring the legality of real estate developments.
The Undersecretary of Territorial Administration of Sedetus, Nicolás Gabino Santo Pérez, and the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, Alonso Fernández Lemmen Meyer, supervised the closure of the four properties to ensure compliance with current regulations.
Sedetus reported that all four real estate projects lacked permits to sell and posed a risk to residents because they also lacked the necessary infrastructure and legal title transfers.
Sedetus says they will continue to strengthen inter-institutional work to ensure Quintana Roo’s growth is carried out responsibly and legally, prioritizing the well-being of families and the protection of the territory.

Earlier this month, municipal authorities shut down two illegal real estate projects in Puerto Morelos. The two projects, located along the Ruta de los Cenotes highway, were also closed for a lack of permits.
