Cancun, Q.R. — Transit officers were at the scene of an early morning double-van crash that happened at a Cancun intersection. Allegations of one van running a red light may have been the cause of the second van ending up on its side.

Drivers passing through the intersection called 9-1-1 after watching the two public vans collide. According to Cancun Transit, the accident involved a public TTE combi and private transport van.
The two vehicles met at the intersection of Leona Vicario Avenue and Tulum Extension with injuries reported. According to early information, at least five were hurt between the two vans involved. Four people from inside the TTE combi and the driver of the private van.
While one van ended up in the central median, the other ended up overturned in a lane. City property was also damaged from the TTE van crashing into the base of a traffic light, leaving it wobbling in the intersection.
Monday morning traffic was complicated even further with the arrival of emergency vehicles. At least two ambulances responded to the report of the intersection crash also with several police units.
Cancun Transit warned drivers about the Monday morning chaos. “A traffic incident involving a TTE public service van and a Federal Public Service van has been reported on Leona Vicario Avenue and Tulum Extension. Injuries have been reported.

“Cancun Traffic and emergency units are already working at the scene. Please take precautions.”
