Two new hotels announced for Cancun’s Playa Mujeres

Cancun, Q.R. — A Spanish hotel chain has announced its intention to begin building two large hotels on purchased land north of Cancun.

The Insotel Hotel Group of the Empresas Alonso Marí out of Ibiza, will begin building one of their two planned hotels for Playa Mujeres. The construction of the hotels will be the company’s first outside Spain.

They have chosen the Mexican Caribbean for their first international project, having purchased the land several years ago. The two hotels will be luxury accommodations with a total of 900 rooms and an investment of around 246 million Euro.

Playa Mujeres, which is seven kilometers north of Cancun, will be home to the hotels along with an 18-hole golf course. The project includes the construction of two luxury hotels integrated into an existing golf course that was designed by former champion, Greg Norman.

Although the land was purchased a few years ago, the company has now decided to start construction of the hotels, which when complete, will be the first to open outside Spain.

According to Diario de Ibiza, the company says the first construction phase is scheduled to start in the second half of this year, and will include the construction of a 400-room luxury hotel “specializing in the all-inclusive luxury product focused on adult-only tourism.” In the second phase, a 500-room hotel is expected.

Another Ibizan company, Grupo Empresas Matutes, also acquired land to build a new luxury establishment, the Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres Resort & Spa, which opened a few months ago.
