Tulum, Q.R. — The municipality of Tulum says the first recruitment of its new specialized tourist police are ready to hit the hotel zone. Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo says the new Executive Police will be in charge of security in the tourist areas.

He says their focus will be on maintaining order and the integrity of the tourists who visit, providing peace of mind to visitors and to the hotels. The first recruitment of 22 was rolled out Wednesday afternoon.
“This is one more step in the implementation of the Blindaje Tulum strategy, which seeks to guarantee a safe and reliable environment for the development of our city and the well-being of all its inhabitants,” Castañón Trejo added.
Castañón Trejo said that after passing their written exams in Chetumal, they received training from the State Police Academy, making them properly trained to join the police forces.
“In Tulum, the safety of our visitors and those who are part of our community is our priority. We are taking a big step with the introduction of the Executive Police, a specialized body that will work directly in the tourist area, guaranteeing the protection of tourists and hoteliers.
“These agents have the specific training to meet the needs of the sector within the framework of our Blindaje Tulum strategy. With this new deployment, we reaffirm our commitment to a safer Tulum, where tranquility and well-being are a constant for everyone,” the City of Tulum reported.

In a separate post, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo said “Tulum residents, we present to you the new Executive Police that will be in charge of security in our tourist area. Their work will focus on maintaining order and the integrity of the tourists who visit this paradise, providing the peace of mind that we all need and that of the hoteliers.
“This is one more step in the implementation of the Blindaje Tulum strategy, which seeks to guarantee a safe and reliable environment for the development of our city and the well-being of all its inhabitants. We continue to work together, where peace and security are a right and a priority for all.”

On Wednesday, 22 certified personnel were deemed ready to work out of the 100 the Mayor says the municipal administration intends to hire. The Executive Police are financed by the private sector.

According to the SSC of Tulum (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública y Protección Ciudadana de Tulum), the officers have their own Policía Ejecutiva uniforms and equipment which differ from other SSC police.
On February 25, Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo first announced the creation of the new tourist police that he reported would be specifically to man the hotel zone.
