Tulum, Q.R. — The death toll in the Friday evening beach club shooting in Tulum has risen to two. According to the State Attorney General (FGE), the man that was injured in the Friday shooting has died.
The FGE released a statement late Sunday regarding the Friday shooting that claimed the life of an American woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, identified by the FGE only by his nickname Belize, was taken to hospital where he died.
According to the FGE, they have identified those responsible for the shooting that killed two people.
The shooting happened at a restaurant-beach club in the Tulum Hotel Zone Friday evening. The shooting is reported to have been between criminal gang members, one of which was Belize.
The woman, identified as Niko “H”, was killed when she was hit by a stray bullet during the exchange of gunfire. Authorities have not clarified if she was a tourist or resident.
In their statement, the FGE reported that “the female person who unfortunately lost her life had no connection with the deceased male, identified with the alias “Belize”.
“Regarding the man “Belize”, he is identified for his probable participation in events possibly constituting drug-related crimes in the form of drug dealing and that he was part of a criminal group that generated violence in the state.
“At the time of the events, the subject had among his belongings transparent bags containing white powder with characteristics typical of cocaine, transparent bags with red and orange pills, as well as a transparent bag containing brown granulated powder.”
The FGE says they have identified those responsible for the murders and are working on arrests.
