Akumal, Q.R. — A tourist was transferred to hospital from Akumal Bay in critical condition Sunday. The man, identified as 65 year old Humbeto “P” from Mexico City, was rushed to hospital from a near-drowning.
The man was swimming with his adult daughter in the bay Sunday when he began to have trouble staying afloat. Local tourist workers rushed into the water to assist in pulling him to shore to a waiting ambulance.
Tulum Civil Protection personnel and paramedics were able to stabilize him before being transferred, however, he was deemed to be in critical condition during the ride.
He was rushed to a Playa del Carmen hospital for medial treatment under a red code. His current condition is unknown.
