Cancun, Q.R. — A man from Mexico City has reportedly drowned off a beach area of Playa Marlin Azul during a nighttime swim. The accident happened over the weekend with authorities arriving at the beach to find the deceased man laying on the sand.
The drowning happened Sunday night at Playa Marlin Azul at kilometer 9.5 of Kukulkán Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone. Police and medical personnel responded to the 8:00 p.m. call for assistance near the Punta Cancun area, only to find the man dead.
He is reported to have been a tourist, identified as 44-year-old B.A.H.S of Mexico City. The police report says that the man went swimming but failed to take notice of the strong currents.
He was carried out to sea. Other nighttime beachgoers called for help when they noticed him floating in the sea. He was returned to the sand, but was already deceased.
