Tilted load leave 3 of Cancun's busiest lanes shut for afternoon travel

Three lanes of Cancun traffic was left shut Monday afternoon due to the load of spilled pipes. Cancun Transit were made aware of the 1:30 p.m. mishap by stranded motorists.

The incident happened at a parking lot entrance on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard, near Bonfil. Driver heading toward the Cancun airport were left at a standstill.

Drivers reported that the driver changed from the left lane of the boulevard and made a wide turn to the right to enter the parking lot, however, his load tilted.

The uneven tilt caused several sections of pipes to come loose and spill onto the boulevard next to the trailer. Several small cars were able to squeeze through the opening between parked vehicles and the front of the semi to continue on their way, however, most vehicles were left stuck.

Transit officers remained on scene more than an hour until the road was cleared and traffic able to resume.
