Cancun, Q.R. — Three Cancun taxi passengers were taken to hospital on Tuesday after their cab was attacked by armed men. The incident happened just after midnight while the taxi was traveling along José López Portillo Avenue.
According to preliminary reports, a vehicle paired up with the taxi and opened fire against the driver. When the driver of the cab attempted to accelerate to lose his attackers, they followed and kept shooting.
On board were two adults and a four-year-old minor. All three were injured and rushed to Cancun hospital. They are reported to be relatives of the taxi driver. A status on their health is not known.
The driver of the Andrés Quintana Roo taxi was killed. He was hit several times by those in the second vehicle. Responding emergency personnel arrived to find him dead in the front seat of his unit. The names of those involved were not provided.
