Cancun, Q.R. — A third man reported to be a loan shark collector has been shot in Cancun in as many days. On Wednesday, another man was shot and killed when attempting to collect money from a client.
The man, who has not been named, was found laying dead on a sidewalk in SM 260 after being shot. Residents called 9-1-1 after hearing bursts of gunfire then seeing the man laying on the ground.
He is the third person from a group of “gota a gota” or loan shark collectors to be shot since Monday. On Monday, a Colombian loan shark collector was shot outside a Cancun apartment building during what was reported to be a robbery after collecting money from a client.

The incident happened on Antonio Polo Rodríguez Avenue in the Prado Norte neighborhood. He was shot by criminal gang members after refusing to pay his ‘debt collection fee’ to the group. He survived the attack.

On Tuesday, a second man, also reported to be a Colombian loan shark collector, was shot and found dead on a public street in the Tres Reyes neighborhood. The man was standing outside a convivence store when he was shot four times.
On Wednesday, a third loan shark collector was shot and also killed while collecting fees. The latest shooting happened Wednesday afternoon in the Villas Otoch neighborhood.The man’s body was located on Paseo Ébano Avenue outside a private home.
Municipal and State Police arrived to confirm the shooting. He too, is reported to be of Colombian nationality. The unnamed man died after being shot several times in the chest and back by two men.

Authorities interviewed neighbors who reported that the man had arrived to collect on a loan. When he stopped in front of a house, two armed men approached him from behind. While yelling for help, they shot him at point-blank range before fleeing the scene.
