Cozumel, Q.R. — The possible arrival of a hurricane has already seen three cruise ships alter their itineraries for Cozumel. Ships Allure of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas have changed course due to the arrival of a tropical storm that is forecast to hit the region as a Category 1 hurricane late tonight.
The general director of the Port Administration Integral de Quintana Roo (APIQROO), Alicia Ricalde Magaña says that Symphony of the Seas was scheduled to dock at Cozumel Wednesday, while the Allure of the Seas and Adventure of the Seas were scheduled to arrive Thursday, however, due to the proximity of the storm, their arrivals were canceled.
She added that so far, the arrival of Carnival Breeze and Carnival Vista cruises are still scheduled for August 19, adding that ferry routes for both Cozumel and Isla Mujeres continue to maintain normal operations, which will continue as long as the weather conditions allow.
The expected arrival of Grace has also seen the closure of archaeological zones in Quintana Roo. Authorities said they will close the archaeological zones of Tulum, Cobá, Muyil and San Gervasio, as well as the Museum of Mayan Culture in Cancun due to Grace.
In a statement, the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico reported that the tentative reopening date will be Friday, August 20 or until further notice depending on how the storm passes.
