Cancun, Q.R. — Three men have been jailed in relation to a weekend shooting that killed two. Elements of the Quintana Roo Benito Juárez Police arrested the three men who are believed involved in the deadly shooting inside a Cancun taqueria that left two dead and one injured.
In a news briefing, authorities reported the arrests of 30-year-old Luis Martín “N”, 27-year-old Antonio “N” and 28-year-old José “N”. On Saturday night, two men entered the taqueria on Avenida Kabah and opened fire.
Two people were pronounced on scene, while one was taken to hospital in a private vehicle. One of those killed inside the taqueria was a 16-year-old boy. Witnesses told police the shooters fled on a motorcycle after the shooting.
Using city surveillance, police were able to locate the bike, which they found on Tules Avenue traveling in the direction of Chac Mool Avenue. They then followed the bike to a dirt road in SM 253 where a red Nissan truck was waiting.
Police intercepted the truck and made the arrests after those inside were found carrying a loaded weapon.
On Saturday night, Cancun police responded to the report of gunfire inside an eatery in SM 248. They arrived to find three people with gunshot wounds. According to preliminary information, the two men opened fire as the eatery was closing. All three shot were restaurant employees.
The shooting is alleged in retaliation for non-payment of floor rights (extortion) by the owner.
The deceased have been identified as 19 year old Santiago Geovanny “N” and 16 year old Josías Gerardo “N”. The injured man was 21 year old Eduardo “N” who does not have life threatening injuries.
